Virginia Porter was first sworn in as the Dallas County Auditor on September 1, 1996. She is the first female County Auditor in the history of Dallas County, where 37 District Judges approve appointments biennially for two-year terms.
As County Auditor, Virginia is the Chief Financial Officer of the county and has oversight of all books and records of all county offices involving strategic planning and accountability testing relevant to systems control and risk. She was a steering committee leader on two successful systems implementation projects for Dallas County in 1999-2000 working with staff from several offices to implement software in the finance and payroll areas.
Prior to becoming County Auditor, Virginia held several management positions in the Auditor's office. With an accounting degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, Virginia is also a Certified Public Accountant. In addition, she serves on the GFOA Technology Resource Committee, as a board member of the Texas Association of County Auditors and on various committees within Dallas County.
A county leader with a vision for the future of e-Government, Virginia is actively involved in efforts to expand the County's web presence through the Dallas County Online interactive portal, offering credit card collections with third party administrators.
