Lew Sterret Justice Center South Tower

The South Tower will replace the Suzanne L. Kays facility currently located on Riverfront Boulevard. The Kays facility, which was converted from a former warehouse into a 1,008-bed medium security jail, was opened by Dallas County in 1994. The Kays facility property was sold to TxDOT to allow for the planned western extension of Woodall Rodgers Freeway.Lew Sterrett - South

The new tower will include:  4 stories, 310,000 square feet., medium security jail 2,304 beds, dormitory style.

Cost:  Approximately $55 million

Funding:  $30 million from sales of Kays property to TXDOT, $600,000 interest from investment. Remaining balance will come from Major Capital Improvement Fund.

Estimated Completion Date:  December 2008.
