On June 16, 2006, Commissioner Cantrell announced the “Realignment” of District 2 which took effect October 1, 2006. Although Dallas County as a whole has discussed the elimination of Road & Bridge departments due to local urbanization, it was time for District 2 to move forward. Due to the growth of the cities and annexations over the last several years, the unincorporated road miles within District 2 dropped from just over 43 miles to approximately 8, an 80% reduction. These road miles are referred to Type A (County 100% responsibility).
In addition, more cities are moving to concrete construction instead of the use of asphalt which further reduces their utilization of District 2 since the county’s crews only work with asphalt.
