Kenneth A. Mayfield was born 12/10/50 in Kadena, Okinawa . He has been married to the former Diane Starrett of Farmers Branch for 29 years. They reside at 1541 Kari Ann Drive in Cedar Hill , Texas , 75104 , with their two daughters, Lindsey and Kelsey. The Mayfields lost a third daughter, Ashley, in 1996. Prior to his election to Commissioners Court , he was engaged full time in the private practice of law from 1988 to 1995. From October 1980 until June 1988 he was an Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County and Chief of the Juvenile Division for that office. Commissioner Mayfield served on the Cedar Hill School Board where he was elected to 3 three-year terms in 1988, 1991 and 1994.

Commissioner Mayfield was first elected in 1994 to serve Dallas County District 4, which currently includes Coppell, Irving , Grand Prairie , Cockrell Hill, Duncanville , Cedar Hill, and parts of Oak Cliff and West Dallas . He was re-elected in 1998 and 2002 to consecutive four- year terms.
