The Dallas County Central Records Section maintains and services files for Criminal Misdemeanor and closed Probate and Civil cases. Our goal is to provide our patrons with the best customer service experience in Dallas County.

How do I find out if someone has a Criminal record?

Dallas County offers a free, online tool for searching Criminal case history. The Dallas County Criminal Background Search Service offers Criminal case information from 1975-present.

Contact the Central Records Criminal Division at (214) 653-5763 to obtain information regarding a certified Records search.

How do I obtain copies of Records?

Requests for Criminal Records may be obtained in person, by writing or via e-mail.

Requests for closed Civil and Probate Records may be obtained in person, by writing, or via e-mail (closed Probate only).

**Via e-mail is the preferred method.**

Can I e-mail my request?

Criminal Records request may be e-mailed to DC.CriminalRecords@dallascounty.org (Misdemeanor Cases Only)

Civil Records request may be e-mailed to DCClosedCivilRec@dallascounty.org (Closed Cases Only)

Probate Records requests may be e-mailed to DCClosedProbateRec@dallascounty.org (Closed Cases Only Prior to 2012)

E-mail requests are processed in the same manner as written requests.

Can I get copies over the internet?

Criminal Cases from 2011 - present are available online. However, depending on when the case was disposed, some older cases (prior to 2011) may be available online.

Civil records can be obtained online from 2012 - present.

Probate records can be obtained online from 2012 - present.

The Dallas County Public Access to Court Records service offers Criminal Misdemeanor case information for 2011 files only. Please read the accompanying notice for other services offered through this site.

What is the fee for copies?

The copy fee is $1.00 per page as well as a $5 charge per case if certification or exemplification is required.  In some instances the size of the file may require additional certifications fee.

Criminal case copies: There is a $5 charge per case if certification is required

Closed Probate copies: There is a $5 charge per case if certification or exemplification is required.

Closed Civil copies: There is a $5 charge per case if certification or exemplification is required.

Can I pay for these Records with a credit card?

Cash is accepted if paying in person.

Credit card payments are accepted in person for criminal cases only. However, there is an additional fee.

 

Criminal records payment are accepted by cashier check, money orders and attorney checks with bar number.

For civil and Probate requests, payment can be made by cashier check, money order, and business checks.

Payment must be exact.
