The local government code dictates the filing fees in the County Clerk offices. Additional fees are set by the Commissioners Court. Commissioners Court fees relate to service provided by the Sheriff and Constable for Dallas County.

A state dictated fee can change as often as every 2 years, which is when the legislature meets. Commissioner Court set fees can change annually, based on the cost of providing the service.
