DCHHS hosts annual preparedness fair
DCHHS held its second annual emergency preparedness fair. Prep Rally 2015 was open to all Dallas County residents looking for information on how to get better prepared for emergencies and disasters. Prep Rally had more than 35 unique displays and exhibitors on important topics such as preparing your home for severe weather, things to include in an emergency supply kit, emergency generator tips, and more.
Several local emergency response organizations, including Dallas Fire/Rescue and American Red Cross, participated in the event to raise awareness on local issues, like fire safety in the home. In addition to the information booths, there were guest speakers giving tips and recommendations on long-term food and water storage, how to build preparedness within your neighborhood, using emergency communication devices like HAM radio, and many more.
Participants played games and activities such as “What’s Your Disaster IQ?” and “Emergency Millionaire.”
Prep Rally is part of an ongoing effort within the Public Health Preparedness Division and Dallas County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) to strengthen community preparedness in Dallas County.
“Prep Rally is a great opportunity for us to encourage others to be responsible for their own survival in a disaster and to raise awareness of the MRC and our volunteers,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director.
