DCHHS commemorates National Public Health Week and receives praise for its many efforts
National Public Health Week (NPHW) 2015 is April 6-12. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who also serves as chairman of the Public Health Advisory Committee, presented DCHHS with a resolution acknowledging NPHW and for the department's many public health efforts in Dallas County.
Also of relevance to NPHW, Dallas Weekly published "State of Our Public Health" by U.S. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. In the article, she talks about how public health begins at home and also mentions Director Thompson and Medical Director/Health Authority Dr. Perkins giving residents recommendations to protect from mosquito bites which can cause diseases like West Nile and Chikungunya viruses.
There are 10 essential public health services used as a framework for public health initiatives. As DCHHS commemorates NPHW, take a look at a few DCHHS efforts toward addressing those initiatives.
