DCHHS Kicks Off 2017 Back-to-School Immunizations
DALLAS (July 26, 2017) – Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is kicking off back-to-school immunizations by holding a free clinic Saturday, July 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at New Light Church located at 9314 Elam Road in Dallas.
To emphasize the importance of vaccinations and preparing for the school year early, DCHHS has partnered with New Light Church and a host of participating vendors to offer free immunizations, free school supplies, free haircuts and giveaways to help parents check off their back-to-school to do list.
“Parents and guardians don’t need to wait until the last minute to check immunizations off the list,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director. "With the mumps outbreak last school year, it is imperative that parents make sure their children's immunizations are up to date. State law mandates all immunizations should be completed by the first date of attendance, and fully vaccinated against certain diseases.”
“Provisional enrollments are not always guaranteed and are only short term,” said Tammara Scroggins, DCHHS asst. director public health communicable disease. “Acting now will help ensure that your children are ready for classes on the first day of school.”
Parents and guardians should review immunization records and consult with a primary care provider or a public health professional to determine needed vaccinations. Texas minimum state vaccine requirements for students grades K-12 can be found at www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school /default.shtm
