DCHHS Offers Free HIV/STD Testing on National HIV Testing Day
DALLAS (June 27, 2017) – Today, in honor of National HIV Testing Day, Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is teaming up with Afiya Center to raise awareness and improve HIV education by offering free testing for sexually-transmitted diseases and HIV Tuesday June 27, 2017 at the following location:
- 3217 W. Camp Wisdom Road Dallas, TX 75237 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Through continuous efforts, DCHHS health officials are urging Dallas County residents to take advantage of this free opportunity to get tested for HIV.
“The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested. Many people with HIV don’t have any symptoms,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director. In the United States, 1 in 8 people living with HIV don't know they have it.”
“Individuals can take charge of their long-term health by first knowing their HIV status,” said Dr. Christopher Perkins, DCHHS medical director/health authority. “As soon as an individual is diagnosed with HIV, they can begin managing the virus by receiving early intervention and treatment, and by living a healthy lifestyle.”
Following this event, DCHHS is also teaming up with the AIDS Interfaith Network / Manos Unidas June 28 by participating in a testing event to be held at the Consulate General of Mexico located at 1210 River Bend Dr. Dallas, TX 75207
