DCHHS hosts tabletop exercise for disease outbreak response preparedness

DCHHS recently hosted an emerging diseases tabletop exercise to test plans and procedures for dealing with unfamiliar health threats. With over 20 agencies in attendance from both Dallas and Tarrant Counties, the exercise simulated what might happen if a new disease outbreak were to occur. Participants were given a detailed scenario about how an emerging disease might spread and then asked to discuss how their agency would respond. As the scenario unfolded and the outbreak grew, each agency was tasked with reaching out to other participants to understand how they would contribute to the response if it had been a real event. The goal of the exercise was to give all agencies involved in emergency planning and response in Dallas County the chance to learn from each other about their unique roles and responsibilities during a public health emergency.
