DALLAS (Feb. 9, 2018) – Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) announces the launch of mobile immunization clinics to administer free flu vaccines to uninsured and underinsured adults beginning Feb. 9. DCHHS has recently partnered with Pleasant Grove Library’s AARP Tax Preparation event to host a mobile immunization clinic to administer free flu vaccines. The event will be held Friday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7310 Lake June Rd, Dallas, TX 75217.  Residents of the 75217 zip code who have not received the flu vaccine are urged to attend the event.

“All indications show that influenza activity in Dallas County remains high,” said Ganesh Shivaramaiyer, DCHHS interim director. “Vaccination is especially important for older adults because they are more vulnerable to complications from the seasonal flu.”

“Following similar trends across the country, Dallas County has experienced an increase in influenza related emergency room visits, ICU hospitalizations and influenza related deaths,” said Dr. Christopher Perkins, Dallas County health authority/medical director. “Residents should take precaution to prevent the flu. It’s not too late to receive the flu shot. It takes two weeks for your body to build immunity once you've received the vaccination.”

DCHHS has identified more than five ICU hospitalizations in each of the below zip codes. Free mobile immunization clinics will continue to travel throughout Dallas County to include the cities of Cedar Hill, Cockrell Hill, Dallas and DeSoto to help stop the spread of flu illness. To find out where the next clinic will be, sign up for DCHHS subscriptions at

The DCHHS mobile immunization clinic initiative is an extension of existing services and public health efforts to the community. DCHHS is also extending free flu shots to adults at the following DCHHS Children’s Immunization Clinics while supplies last:

  • John West Branch Immunization Clinic 3312 N. Buckner Blvd. Suite 200 Dallas, TX 75228
  • Irving Branch Immunization Clinic 440 S. Nursery Rd. Irving, TX 75060

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine for all persons aged 6 months and older, with rare exception. Individuals should discuss flu vaccine concerns with a health care provider. The flu vaccine DCHHS provides is an all-in-one shot that protects against multiple flu strains including the H1N1virus. The adult flu vaccine is given in the adult immunization clinic on the first floor at the DCHHS building located at 2377 N. Stemmons Frwy in Dallas. The children’s vaccine is available at all DCHHS immunization clinics. Clinic hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
