This division investigates, intervenes to prevent transmission, and reports to
Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) all reportable conditions in Dallas County except for sexually transmitted diseases
(STD), Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Disease (HIV/AIDS) and Tuberculosis (TB). STD/HIV and TB
have separate divisions specifically for these diseases.
The reportable condition list is created by Texas Department of
State Health Services with information received from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Objectives
The Communicable Disease Surveillance Program of Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services is
committed to protect the citizens of Dallas County from the threat posed by the spread of infectious diseases through
early detection, prompt investigation, vigilant surveillance and institution of rigorous control efforts aimed at
reducing morbidity and mortality rates at a population level.
Services
Education and consultation are available to the public, health care providers
and other agencies (i.e., day care providers, work place sites, schools, etc.) for each program area listed below.
