Welcome to the Dallas County Home Loan Counseling Center

Our mission is to increase homeownership opportunities in Dallas County for lower income families through home buyer education, mortgage counseling, and down payment assistance programs. Our services are free of charge to anyone interested in home ownership, regardless of income, race, religion, sex, age, or national origin. We are a HUD approved counseling agency.

Our goal is to provide prospective home buyers with information about the process of owning a home of one's own. We are the oldest and most comprehensive, not for profit provider of home buyer education and counseling in the North Texas area. Since 1989, the Dallas County Home Loan Counseling Center has been making home ownership a reality for families in Dallas County.

We have professional partnerships with local municipal governments and not-for-profit housing agencies, home builders, Realtors and mortgage lenders, as well as FreddieMac and FannieMae with the common goal of providing home ownership opportunities for low and moderate income families in Dallas County .

Some of the many services we offer include:

First Time Homebuyer Seminars
Held monthly, this three-part, 8.5 hours of education covers the complete home buying process. Also offered one Saturday a month in Spanish.

Budget/Financial Literacy Class
A two hour class that covers checking, savings accounts, credit, savings techniques, preparing personal budgets toward the goal of buying and maintaining a home.

Foreclosure Counseling
Individual counseling for reducing the prospect of foreclosure by determining the status of the mortgage loan, determining the cause of being in default, determining the financial status of the borrower (budget), and determining the borrowers options for loan workout.

HECM Loan Counseling
For clients 62 years of age or older who want to obtain a HECM loan against the equity in their home. HUD and AARP approved counseling.

Credit Repair
A two hour class that teaches individuals how to do their own credit repair instead of paying a credit repair company. Participants learn how to order and dispute incorrect information on their credit reports and how to rebuild credit for mortgage loan approval.

Down Payment Assistance
Assist qualified first-time homebuyers, through our Upfront Cost Assistance Program (UPCAP), purchase homes in Dallas County suburban areas with up to $7,500 for downpayment and closing costs assistance.

HOYO (Home of Your Own)
The Home Loan Counseling Center is the lead agency for the Dallas HOYO coalition which offers home ownership opportunities to individuals or families with disabilities. Down payment, closing costs, and home modification funds are available for qualified buyers through funding from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Mortgages utilizing the Fannie Mae HomeChoice mortgage programs are available to qualified buyers through a participating lender.
