Drug Court
The primary goal of the department’s Drug Court is to reduce substance abuse and related behavior through education, intervention, treatment, and family involvement. The Drug Court is also a diversionary program targeting first-time and/or minor drug offenders who receive this opportunity for voluntary participation in lieu of going to Juvenile Court. Youth involved in the Drug Court attend regular meetings with their probation officer, submit to frequent urinalysis drug tests, and appear before a specially appointed Associate Judge who handles substance abuse offenses. A strong collaboration with community agencies who also provide substance abuse services enable referred youth and families to receive additional services within the community in which they reside.
