Dallas County Juvenline Department

Probation Services Unit

The Probation Services Division of the Juvenile Department performs a wide variety of functions in regards to referred youth and their families. We work with youth and their families from the time that the juvenile is initially referred for delinquent behavior until they exit the juvenile system by fulfilling voluntary or Court-mandated requirements to aid in their rehabilitation. Once a child is arrested and formally referred to the Juvenile Department, the Probation Services Division begins a process of assessing that child and their family’s needs and then delivering the appropriate services to meet those needs. These services can be delivered with or without formal Court intervention, depending on the nature of the offense, the background of the youth, the community safety issues impacted by that child’s behavior, and the needs of the victims of any delinquent offenses. Probation Services delivers both Pre-Adjudication (before Court) and Post-Adjudication (after Court) services. It is comprised of many different units that all have a specific area of expertise and responsibility. The functions of these units which make up the Probation Services Division are fully described in the summaries included on this page.
