The Commission's Historical Marker Committee reviews and approves Official Texas Historical Marker applications before they are approved by the entire Commission and sent to the Texas Historical Commission for final approval. Dallas County currently has almost 300 Official Texas Historical Markers. Citizens interested in sponsoring a marker are encouraged to contact Rick Loessberg for an application, or download on from the links below. Subject markers may be obtained to commemorate a historic site, neighborhood, institution, church, cemetery, event or person. Markers are also available for historic buildings and structures under the Recorded Texas Historic Landmark Program. Procedures, policies and costs for historical markers are determined by the Texas Historical Commission and included with the application.

The Commission also promotes historic preservation and historic appreciation through the news media, speeches and educational programs with civic groups, tourists and schools. In the past, it was a major participant in the effort to create the Sixth Floor Museum and to preserve the Old Red Courthouse, and it also recently spearheaded the first effort to conduct a comprehensive historic resource survey in the County since 1982.
