Special Note:

This preserve is the subject of an extensive usage Environmental Restoration Project which will begin sometime after January 2005 and conclude on or about September 30, 2006. The preserve or portions maybe closed to the public between these dates. For information call the TAPP Office, 214-653-6653.

Parking:

Paved at Loop 12; rolled gravel parking at the River Oaks Road entrance.

Picnic Facilities:

Tables and grills at both sections.

Trails:

¼ - mile ADA trail at Loop 12; Natural surface trail at River Oaks Drive.

History:

The land was once part of the Miller Plantation - “Millermore.”  It was a rallying point for blacks after the Civil War, and it continues to be a popular location for family reunions.  It is located near Joppa, one of the first Freedman communities in Dallas County, The Audubon Society conducts its winter bird count here.
