After eleven years of service and success, Fred Ferguson will be leaving the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce.

Ferguson attended the University of Texas before transferring to Southern Methodist University.  He served as President and CEO of Town North Bank, where he worked for 22 years.

Commissioner Mike Cantrell thanked Ferguson for his “leadership, dedication, and commitment” to the community, and wished him the best in his future endeavors.

Changes coming to Dallas County Hospital District

Following a report by the Saranac Group LLC, the Dallas County Hospital District Board will be forming a new committee for Corporate Governance, Compliance and Ethics. The change was outlined in a resolution passed in Commissioners Court Aug. 20.

The Dallas County Hospital District Board of Managers is appointed by the Dallas County Commissioners Court,  with seven members total. The board manages the Parkland Hospital and Healthcare System.

Other changes to come, stemming from the report, include improved communication between the Board and the Commissioners Court and require that future appointees to the Board provide a written acknowledgement of their fiduciary duties before taking their office.

Commissioner Mike Cantrell reads the resolution praising Anne Acuna for her work within Farmers Branch and Dallas County.

Anne Acuna, Director of Chamber Relations for the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce and founder of HLA Associates, was recognized by Commissioner Mike Cantrell for her work within the community.

Having moved to Texas in 2001,  one of Acuna’s passions has been youth outreach, involving her with the Chamer’s Youth Leadership program and the Junior Chamber Ambassadors. She also participates in the youth ministry at the Filipino American Alliance Church in Arlington.

Acuna will be serving in the missions field at Grace Christian Academy on the island of Rota near Guam for a year. Commissioner Cantrell thanked her for her commitment and dedication to the community, and expressed to Acuna “best wishes and continued success in the many years to come.”

Death of former Dallas City Councilman recognized in Commissioners Court

Former City Councilman Leo Chaney died Aug. 12 after a fire in his Dallas home.

Chaney was alone at the time, and was taken to a hospital following the fire. He passed away at Baylor hospital

Commissioner Elba Garcia, a former Dallas City Councilmember, remembered him well and lauded his leadership and legacy. Both Commissioners Garcia  and John Wiley Price reflected and honored Chaney, with a reading from Maya Angelou’s work, the Black Family Pledge.
