Dallas County Government Offices and Courts Delayed Opening until 10:00AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Statement of Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins in Delaying Government Offices and Courts

After convening a call with the National Weather Service and many of our public and private partner agencies, I am delaying opening of Dallas County Government Offices and Courts tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 until 10:00 a.m.  My decision was made in my capacity as Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The decision is based in large part on the National Weather Service’s forecast of slightly below freezing temperatures in Dallas County overnight with a high probability of snow in the morning. The heaviest snowfall is forecast between 3 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. We are expected to be well above freezing by 10:00 a.m. and road conditions should improve throughout the morning after sunrise as a combination of rising temperatures, road pretreatment and vehicle traffic melt snow accumulation. Please use extreme caution and allot extra time for travel.

Although TxDOT has treated most major highways, many secondary roads remain untreated.  In Dallas County, secondary roads carry significant traffic. Road treatment is ongoing and will continue throughout the event, but it will not be possible to treat all secondary routes and freeways may become icy despite pretreatment.

If you must drive tomorrow, please allot extra time and use extreme caution. Carry an ice scraper, water, blankets and emergency items. Our team at Homeland Security and Emergency Management and our first responder community will be on the job throughout the event to keep you safe. Please help us by avoiding unnecessary travel and exercising precautions on icy or snowy surfaces.

Stay warm, dry and safe,
Clay Jenkins
Dallas County Judge

Dallas County Government Offices and Courts Delayed Opening until 12:00 noon on Tuesday February 24, 2015

After convening a call with the National Weather Service and over 50 of our public and private partner agencies, I am delaying opening of Dallas County Government Offices and Courts tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24, 2015 until 12:00 noon.  My decision was made in my capacity as Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.  The decision is based in large part on the National Weather Service’s forecast of below freezing temperatures in Dallas County overnight which will likely result in a re freezing of precipitation on roadways and dangerous driving conditions in the early morning hours.  It is expected the icy conditions will return to a slush mixture by mid morning due to traffic on the roadways and that temperatures will creep above freezing after 1 p.m. tomorrow.  Please use extreme caution and allot extra time for travel.  Commissioner Court will be postponed until the afternoon and will convene at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Although TxDot has treated most major highways, many secondary roads remain untreated.  In Dallas County, secondary roads carry significant traffic. Road treatment is ongoing and will continue throughout the event, but it will not be possible to treat all secondary routes and freeways may become icy despite pretreatment.

Dallas County Government Offices and Courts Closed Monday

After convening a call with the National Weather Service and our public and private partner agencies, I am closing Dallas County Government Offices and Courts tomorrow, Monday, February 23, 2015. My decision is based in large part on the National Weather Service’s high confidence in Dallas County experiencing a significant severe weather event which is forecast to begin at approximately 6:00 am tomorrow.

Although TxDot has pretreated most major highways with a brine solution, many secondary roads remain untreated. In Dallas County, secondary roads carry significant traffic.  Road treatment is ongoing and will continue throughout the event but it will not be possible to treat all secondary routes.

If you must drive tomorrow, please allot extra time and use extreme caution.

Stay warm, dry and safe,

Clay Jenkins
Dallas County Judge
