Former City Councilman Leo Chaney died Aug. 12 after a fire in his Dallas home.

Chaney was alone at the time, and was taken to a hospital following the fire. He passed away at Baylor hospital

Commissioner Elba Garcia, a former Dallas City Councilmember, remembered him well and lauded his leadership and legacy. Both Commissioners Garcia  and John Wiley Price reflected and honored Chaney, with a reading from Maya Angelou’s work, the Black Family Pledge.
