Following a motion made by Commissioners Theresa Daniel and Elba Garcia, Dallas County Commissioners Court has designated Aug. 26, 2013 as Women’s Equality Day in Dallas County.

Nearly a century ago, Aug. 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was passed, granting women the right to vote.  Texas was the ninth state to ratify the amendment and the first state in the south to do so.

Commissioner Daniel  reminded those in the court that despite having overcome obstacles, “acceptance of equality is something we must all practice and teach future generations.”
