Ericka S. Hightower is an Attorney with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas in the Housing, Consumer Protection, and Economic Benefits Division. Ericka has been practicing since 2004 and has been with Legal Aid since that time. She started as a Staff Attorney in the same division before being promoted to Supervising Attorney. Ericka received a dual Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Criminal Justice and one in Philosophy before attending law school at Texas Southern University in Houston. She went on to receive a Master’s degree in Communication from University of Texas at Arlington. Aside from handling housing and consumer cases of her own, Ericka spends a fair amount of time making regular case assignments, guiding staff with case planning, ensuring staff remains in compliance with grant requirements, policies of the firm, State Bar rules, and federal regulations. She has served on a number of decision-making committees as requested by the CEO and Director of Litigation. It is not unusual to find her in the community as the liaison for Legal Aid of Northwest Texas educating social service, government agencies, and the community at large about the services Legal Aid offers as well as substantive areas of law ranging from consumer debt collection, identity theft, eviction, foreclosures, probate, social security, and other practice areas. Aside from practicing law, Ericka’s desire to education overlaps into the classroom. She spends much time training students in the art of communication at Collin County Community College and has so for the last seven years. She is active in her community judging mock trial competitions, formerly serving as Board President for a local non-profit organization, currently as a CSBG Board member with the Urban League of Greater Dallas, participating in community dance theater, and actively involved in her church amongst other things.
