Mental Illness Court Location
Probate Court No. 3 oversees the Dallas County Mental Illness Court. The Mental Illness Court is located in the Auxiliary Courtroom adjacent to the Green Oaks Psychiatric Hospital. Mental Illness Court is in session on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning at 9:00 AM.

Mental Illness Warrant
A Mental Illness Warrant may be issued in Dallas County when a person is mentally ill AND is a danger to him or herself, incapable of taking care of him or herself, or a danger to others.
The applicant for a Mental Illness Warrant must be 18 years of age or older and must have first-hand knowledge of the behavior, state specific recent act(s), attempt(s), or threat(s). The applicant for the warrant must be willing to sign a notarized statement about the behavior.
A warrant may be obtained at:
1) Mental Illness Court Office located in the Records Building at 509 Main Street, 3rd floor, Room 307, Dallas, Texas from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
2) Magistrate’s office in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center at 111 W. Commerce Street Dallas 75202 after 4:30 PM, on weekends, and on holidays.
3) Local Justice of the Peace office in your precinct.
An Apprehension by a Police Officer without a Warrant (APPOW) may also be obtained through a Sherriff or police officer if there is not enough time to obtain a warrant.
