Open Spaces Rules and Regulations

When visiting a Dallas County Open Space Preserve always:

  • HAVE FUN.
  • BE COURTEOUS to everyone and everything at all times.
  • BE AWARE of your surroundings and the weather.
  • REMEMBER YOU ARE THE VISITOR. The plants and animals are where they belong.
  • HIKE WITH AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON.
  • BE MINDFUL OF SNAKES AND POISONOUS PLANTS.
  • BRING PLENTY OF WATER.
  • STAY ON OBVIOUS OR MARKED PATHS AND TRAILS. Do not cut through the woods.
  • TAKE PLENTY OF PHOTOS, BUT DO NOT TAKE THE PLANTS OR ANIMALS WITH YOU.
  • LEAVE THE ANIMALS ALONE. They make look cute, but they are wild.
  • DON’T STOP AND STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF A TRAIL. If you need to pause or stop to rest, please step-off to the right of the trail.
  • DON’T MAKE U-TURNS. If you need to turn-around, step-off to the right of the trail, wait for an opening, and then safely cross the trail and travel in the opposite direction.
  • WALK NO MORE THAN TWO-ACROSS and be sure to either move further to the right edge of the trail or to walk single-file when someone attempts to pass on the left or when encountering on-coming traffic.
  • PICK-UP AFTER YOUR DOG.
  • USE TRASH RECEPTACLES. If none are available, please take your trash with you!
  • BE SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE. Alcohol, boats, canoes, weapons, hunting, and fireworks are not permitted. On-site cooking is only permitted when outdoor grills are present.
  • FOLLOW ALL POSTED RULES OR LAWS.
