Assistant Chief Deputy Chris Smith oversees the Technical Services Bureau. He began his career in law enforcement in 1989 as a Detention Service Officer with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

He was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff in June 1992 and worked in various assignments including Bailiff and Patrol.

Chief Smith was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2000 and served as a first-line supervisor in the Patrol and Traffic Divisions.

In 2010, Chief Smith was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and worked as a commander in Technical Services and Intelligence.

In 2017, Chief Smith was promoted to the rank of Captain and served as the Division Commander of the Freeway Management Division, Internal Affairs Division and the Special Investigations Division.

In 2020, Chief Smith was honored to be chosen as an Assistant Chief Deputy where he was assigned to the Inmate Housing Bureau.  Chief Smith was placed in command of the Technical Services Bureau in March 2021.
