The academy is housed at the:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Dallas+County+Sheriff's+Academy\/@32.644844,-96.8436088,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x864e9195651bb735:0x47f730a20ed0ec9d!8m2!3d32.644844!4d-96.8410339!16s%2Fg%2F11p0yc7q3p?entry=ttu\"><strong>Dallas County Sheriff\u2019s Department Training Academy<br \/>\n<\/strong>8401 South Polk Street<\/a><br \/>\nDallas, TX 75203<br \/>\n<a href=\"tel:9722259707\">(972) 225-9707<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The academy exists to provide the highest quality training possible for the law enforcement\/detentions community, and for other employees of Dallas County. This training is in the areas of knowledge, skills, and attitude and will be conducted in the basic training and in-service training modes. Our goal is to provide the citizens we serve with the best trained, most highly skilled, and ethical public servants possible.<\/p>\n<p>As a secondary function, the training section serves as the repository of training records for the department and its employees and as the reporter of these to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).<\/p>\n<p>The Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) is offered as needed by the department, usually twice annually. This course is open to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our department\u2019s cadets<\/li>\n<li>Other Dallas County law enforcement agencies cadets (examples: Constables, District Attorney\u2019s Office, and Parkland Hospital Police Department)<\/li>\n<li>All other agencies\u2019 cadets based on available seats (subject to tuition charge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Basic Correction Officer Course (BCOC) is offered as needed by the department, usually 8 \u2013 10 times annually. This course is open to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our department\u2019s cadets<\/li>\n<li>All other agencies\u2019 cadets based on available seats (subject to tuition charge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In-service training is provided regularly, which meets the training mandates set by TCOLE and the training needs of our department and the local law enforcement community.<\/p>\n<p>A major component of the academy is the Kenneth J. \u201cMitch\u201d Mitchum Firearms Training Center, located at 1508 Landgon Road in Southeast Dallas County. The Firearms Training Center consists of 13 acres and includes the following facets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Classroom<\/li>\n<li>Defensive tactics building<\/li>\n<li>20-point, 50-yard pistol range<\/li>\n<li>5-point, 200-yard rifle range<\/li>\n<li>Simmunitions house<\/li>\n<li>Live firehouse<\/li>\n<li>Obstacle course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each facet is open (when available) for reservation by outside agencies on an hourly rental basis.
