LOOKING TO GET MARRIED? Schedule a wedding ceremony with Judge Adam M. Swartz

Please follow these steps to schedule a ceremony at the Justice of the Peace 3-1:

  1. Please obtain a Marriage License 72 hours PRIOR to scheduling a ceremony.
  2. Once you have obtained a Texas issued married license, schedule your Wedding Ceremony proposal date by clicking here.

Pricing:

  • Appointments - Monday-Friday 9:00am – 3:30pm -- $100 fee
  • “Walk-in” - as available Monday-Friday 9:00am – 3:30pm -- $100 fee
  • Weekends or weekdays after hours – fee to be determined and payable in advance.
  • Remote locations – as available, fee to be determined and payable in advance.

JUDGE SWARTZ - COURT INFORMATION

  • Judge Swartz is located on the 3rd floor of the new North Dallas Government Center – 6820 LBJ Freeway, Suite 3100 (southwest corner of the LBJ I-635 Frwy @ Hillcrest Road – formerly the Brinker Headquarters)
  • Our Courtroom features:
    • Gallery bench seating for 60 comfortably
    • Additional seating in jury box
    • Photo / Recording from multiple vantage points inside the courtroom

  • Judge Swartz would be honored to play a role in your special day. Whether you skew more traditional or more modern, want to write your own vows, have religious or spiritual notes or elements worked in, or want to keep it short-and-sweet, JP 3-1 is a wonderful place to achieve a lasting moment that resonates for you on a day when things really count!
  • Please feel free to request any special elements in your matrimonial ceremony. Judge Swartz  fully embraces the varying cultural traditions and customs that are often part of celebrating matrimony in the Dallas community.

WHERE DO WE GO WHEN WE ARRIVE?

  • If you schedule the ceremony, upon arrival you can take the elevators to the 3rd floor just beyond the stairwell. There is also a stairwell just inside the building entry that you can follow up to the 3rd floor.
  • Whether you take the stairs or elevator to the 3rd floor, take a right and follow the hallway past the Court itself to check-in with our clerk at the window.
  • Guests are completely welcome, though witnesses are not required. If the Courtroom is open, guests are welcome to come in and find a seat or, if the Courtroom is not yet open, wait with you in the hallway until the bailiff opens the Courtroom for you.

VALID TIMELINE FOR TEXAS MARRIAGE LICENSE

  • A Texas Marriage License is valid from 72 hours after issuance.
  • The ceremony must be conducted before the 90th day after the date the license is issued.
  • The marriage ceremony may not take place during a 72-hour period immediately following the issuance of the marriage license except when:
    • An applicant is a member of the armed forces of the United States and on active duty with military identification; OR
    • Is not a member of the armed forces of the United States but performs work for the United States Department of Defense as a department employee or under a contract with the department; OR
    • A District Court judge waives the 72-hour period for good cause; OR
    • The couple completes a premarital education course described by Texas Family Code, Section 2.013, and provides to the issuing clerk a premarital education course completion certificate indicating completion of the premarital education course not more than 1 year before the date the marriage license application is filed with the clerk.

Our Court cannot issue your marriage license. It is your responsibility to ensure your license is valid before your ceremony. For your convenience, we have provided information on how to obtain a marriage license in Dallas County and surround counties.

  • Marriage license applications must be completed online. Once you’ve completed the application, you will be provided with an order number to book your appointment. Please make note of this order number, because you will need this number during the scheduling of your appointment. Marriage License Application

    • Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your appointment.
    • If you are more than 10 minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled and you will have to reschedule.
    • Because of the social distancing, our office will only allow the couple receiving the marriage license to enter the office.
