DALLAS COUNTY, TEXAS – January 16, 2026 – The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) has completed its comprehensive inspection of the Dallas County Jail, and the Dallas County Jail passed inspection.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards is the state regulatory board for all county jails in the State of Texas. The commission is charged with conducting regular unannounced inspections of county jails.

The inspections allow the professional examiners to see how and if the day-to-day operations of the county jail are within state standards.

The areas assessed include, but are not limited to:

  • Sanitation
  • Health Services
  • Food Service
  • Clothing & Personal Hygiene
  • Life Safety Rules
  • Education & Rehabilitation Programs
  • Recreation
  • Records and Procedures

The TCJS began its inspection of the Dallas County Jail on Tuesday, January 13, and concluded on Thursday, January 15.  Deputy Director Tim Armstrong congratulated the Sheriff’s Department on a “clean inspection,” citing that it’s commendable that the inspection did not yield even a Technical Assistance Memo (matters that needed corrective action), “… especially a jail of this size.”

Sheriff Brown states, “These inspections continue to represent our accountability to the community.  The passing results emphasize the hard work produced daily by the employees of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.  We’re committed to being good stewards, and this inspection verifies that commitment.
