James SpencerAssist Chief of the Enforcement Operations Bureau, James Spencer. In 1987, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety- Highway Patrol and graduated from the DPS Academy as a State Trooper. After 7 years as a patrolman, he entered the promotional process. He continued in the promotional process all the way up through the ranks of Highway Patrol Major, Regional Commander, commanding over 600 troopers.

In 2011, he added another career accomplishment when he attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantic, Va.

In 2014, he was inducted into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame.

In 2014, he retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Highway Patrol Major with 28 years of service and became a member of the Special Texas Rangers Service.

In 2014, he took on another career in the oil and gas industry, serving as the Regional Safety Officer for Basic Energy Services. Where he retired after 6 years of service.

In 2022, he took on another career challenge by accepting a new law enforcement job in the Charter school system as the Assistant Chief of Police at A+ Academy Charter School.

In 2023, yet again, another law enforcement career came when he was offered the opportunity to be a part of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office executive team as one of the Assistant Chief Deputies.
