The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department is the chief law enforcement agency in the county. Established on March 30, 1846, we operate the seventh-largest jail in the United States with an average jail population of over 6,000 inmates and more than 2,000 employees. Unlike municipal law enforcement agencies, sheriff deputies have jurisdiction in all areas of the county, including the other 32 cities in the county.

Message from Marian Brown, Dallas County Sheriff

It is an absolute honor to serve as your Sheriff. Even more so, is the privilege of serving along- side some of the finest men and women in the law enforcement industry.

Our team is committed to the task at hand. They are “where the rubber meets the road”, and they serve regardless of day, time, month, season or circumstance. They work with our partners throughout the community to produce effective results and demonstrate our continued efforts to be worthy of the stewardship entrusted to us.

We strive daily to demonstrate our core values: Integrity out loud; professionalism out front; accountability in all, and each day we press toward a higher mark as we seek to yield results that align with those values.

This annual report is our accountability to the citizens of Dallas County. It represents the fruit of our labor. We trust that as you read, you will find that our values are not just words… but are a way of life for us. Thank you for taking the time to review our work.

Marian Brown Sheriff, Dallas County.
