The Gill-Hernandez Medical Unitis is a treatment facility for all subjects committed to the Dallas County Jail Detention Center. The jail modification creates a stand-alone, centralized medical-mental health services facility. Its primary goal is to limit the number of inmate visits to Parkland’s emergency room and the number of inpatient stays. The ground and first floors are for inmate housing, which consists of the medical infirmary for acute care, the jail clinic, radiology, and dental clinic, including future provisions for a CT imaging machine. The mental health care floor will house 145 inmates. The facility has five areas of medical services. The unit can house 282 inmates.
