Communication Technician

The hiring of deputies occurs as needed by the department, usually twice a year. All deputy applicants must pass a written civil service examination and a physical assessment. In order to be authorized to sit for the civil service examination the applicant must meet one of these criteria:

  • Two years satisfactory service as a DSO
  • At least thirty hours of college (from an accredited college) with at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Two years active military service with an honorable discharge, or
  • Two years of service as a Texas Peace Officer (currently serving) with a Basic Peace Officer Certificate

All deputy candidates must successfully pass the following in order to be hired as a Deputy Cadet and be placed in the Basic Peace Officer Course:

  • Computerized Criminal History
  • Background Investigation
  • Polygraph
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Physical Examination
  • Drug Screening
