Deputy Sheriff Requirements – Sheriff Department (dallascounty.org)
Testing Eligibility Requirements:
- Two years as a Detention Service Officer or
- 30 college hours from an accredited college with at least a 2.5 GPA; or
- Two years of active military service with an honorable discharge
Other Requirements:
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Have not had a peace officer, jailer, or reserve license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (or any other like issuing authority) revoked or suspended for any reason.
- Have not been convicted or received probation for a Class A misdemeanor or above.
- Have not been convicted or received probation for a Class B misdemeanor within the last (10) ten years.
- Have never been convicted of any level of an offense involving Family Violence.
- If applicable, when discharged from the military, must have been discharged under honorable conditions.
All applicants must successfully pass the following to be hired:
- Computerized Criminal History
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph
- Psychological Evaluation
- Physical Examination
