Current Role & Responsibilities
Angela Heggins is the Deputy Engagement Supervisor for the Mental Health Engagement Team at the Public Defender’s Office. She has served in this position for 3 years and before accepting this position, she was the Lead Case Manager at the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office 10 years . She brings a wealth experience from her previous position as a Clinical Manager at Dallas Metrocare Special Needs Offenders program for 3 years and as a Qualified Mental Health Profession for 4 years at Dallas Metrocare. Prior to moving to Texas, she was a field base case manager for Consolidated Youth Services of Arkansas for 10 years. These roles allow her to bring a perspective for field base services verses office base services with the population we serve from the experience of being in the community first before coming to the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office.
Education & Background
Angela earned her master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and completed her bachelor’s degree at Arkansas State University. She has over 15 years’ experience working with youth and adults who have been in and out of the criminal justice system. Her leadership experience includes working as the Clinical Manager over the Assertive Community , Forensic Diversion and Outpatient Competency Restoration Program during her years at Dallas Metrocare Services. She is the mother of 1 adult son and 1 granddaughter. She loves the Denver Broncos and likes to ride her 4-wheeler in her spare time.
