Current Role & Responsibilities
Training Division Supervisor and Intern Coordinator, Dallas County Public Defender’s Office
As Training Division Supervisor and Intern Coordinator, they develop and deliver training for attorneys and support staff across the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office. They oversee the office’s monthly Continuing Legal Education program, helping ensure attorneys remain compliant with state-mandated training requirements while continuing to strengthen their professional knowledge and skills.
They also manage the office’s year-round internship program, coordinating opportunities for law students and future attorneys to gain practical experience and learn more about criminal defense and public service.
Education & Background
They earned a bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television Communications from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. They later completed an executive Master of Business Administration through Central Michigan University’s distance-learning program while living in Honolulu, Hawaii, before earning a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
Before beginning their legal career, they served for six years as an active-duty officer in the United States Air Force, followed by an additional six years in the Inactive Reserves. They also worked as a Senior Internal Management Consultant for the United States headquarters of a global telecommunications corporation.
Their background includes several years of experience training military personnel in career development, operations, and related areas, as well as training mid-level and senior corporate leaders in quality and process-improvement techniques. They have also completed extensive speaking and leadership training through Toastmasters International and previously held certifications as an ISO Quality Auditor and Project Management Professional.
Values & Motivation
They value the opportunity to continuously strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of the attorneys and support staff within the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office. They are also passionate about introducing future attorneys to the meaningful and rewarding work of criminal defense and public service.
Their interest in criminal defense began in law school while representing indigent clients through the Criminal Defense Clinic. During that experience, they served as first chair in three trials and secured not-guilty verdicts in all three cases. Those early courtroom experiences confirmed their passion for criminal defense and shaped their commitment to helping ensure every person receives skilled and dedicated representation.
