Health officials urge the public to take protective measures by utilizing the ‘4Ds’ to reduce the risk of West Nile virus:
- DEET - All Day, Every Day: Whenever outside, use FDA approved insect repellants that contain DEET, picaridin or lemon-eucalyptus oil.
- DRESS: Wear long, loose fitting, light-colored clothing when going outdoors.
- DRAIN: All areas of standing water in or around your home where mosquitos can lay their eggs.
- DAWN, DAY & DUSK: Limit your time outside as mosquitos will bite day and night.

Testing for infected mosquitoes is ongoing throughout Dallas County. The following is a list of cities and their corresponding zip codes where mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus.
- Positive Mosquito Traps = 35*
- Positive Mosquito Pools = 35
*One mosquito trap with a pool containing only Culex restuans was positive for WNV in week 18, and is not included in VI calculations.
