    Dr. Jessica Dwyer is a board-certified forensic pathologist and serves as both Director and Chief Medical Examiner for the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences (SWIFS), a fully integrated building providing forensic services to a population of approximately 2.6 million individuals in the Dallas metropolitan area and to several neighboring counties. In addition, Dr. Dwyer has an Assistant Professor appointment with the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Dwyer is a fourth-generation graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine in San Antonio, TX, completed a combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed a fellowship in Forensic Pathology with the Office of the Medical Examiner of Allegheny County also in Pittsburgh, PA.

    She joined SWIFS in 2017 as a staff medical examiner and served as Chief Deputy Medical Examiner before promotion to Director and Chief Medical Examiner in 2024. She has performed thousands of medicolegal autopsies in many types of deaths spanning all manners of death and has provided expert testimony across many jurisdictions in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Texas. Dr. Dywer directly educates trainees of varying levels in Forensic Pathology and enjoys mentoring those early in their careers.

    Dr. Dwyer has multiple publications in medical journals and has presented at national meetings, including the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). She serves on the SWIFS Executive Committee and, as of 2025, will be a member of the College of American Pathologists' Forensic Pathology Committee.
