Dallas County Health and Human Services’ HIV/AIDS Surveillance Program ensures timely, complete, and accurate HIV/AIDS case reporting and maintains the corresponding statistics.
Reporting HIV/AIDS cases not only protects the health of the community, but it also allows for tracking trends associated with the disease.
Acute HIV infections should be reported by telephone within one working day of a suspected diagnosis. Suspected cases of HIV-exposed infants from health professionals and other persons as specified by §97.132 of this title must be submitted within seven calendar days of that determination.
State reporting regulations require reports of HIV/AIDS cases from physicians, chief administrative officers of hospitals, medical facilities or penal institutions; medical directors, or other physicians, responsible for medical oversight of counseling and testing sites or community-based organizations including any organization or agency operating under the standing orders of a physician; dentists and any person in charge of a clinical laboratory, blood bank, mobile unit or other facility in which laboratory examination of blood specimens or any specimens derived from a human body.
