Andy Sommerman is a longtime resident of Dallas County, and he is honored to represent the people of District 2 on the Dallas County Commissioners Court. Commissioner Sommerman is a highly experienced trial lawyer and throughout his career, has always been an advocate for victims in the courtroom. He has frequently taken on pro bono voter protection cases to benefit our community and will apply that same frame of mind to manage challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, our public healthcare system, and to ensure intelligent and efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
As Dallas County Commissioner, he will work to innovate public infrastructure, which includes Public Healthcare Services, Mental Health Services, Workforce Housing, and Quality Affordable Childcare. To create a better future, Commissioner Sommerman will build coalitions with public and private entities to deliver excellent services to residents of Dallas County.
Commissioner Sommerman has given back to the community in several ways. He is a former member of the South Texas College of Law Board of Directors, and he enjoys sharing his expertise with future generations of lawyers by coaching moot court and mock trial. He has endowed scholarships at his alma maters, the University of Texas at Arlington and The South Texas College of Law. He founded the American Moot Court Association which teaches more than 1000 students every year across the county about advocacy and the ethical pursuit of argument.
Commissioner Sommerman is an avid reader, an aspiring master chef, and loves to travel. He lives in Dallas with his wife (whose biography is much more impressive than Commissioner Sommerman’s), their four year old daughter, and Einstein the cat.
