Esperanza Community Center

Richardson Independent School District Trustees voted in the spring of 2024 to close five schools due to declines in enrollment and funding. J. Frank Dobie Pre-K, located at 14040 Rolling Hills Lane in Dallas, was one of the schools scheduled to close. Dallas County Commissioner Andy Sommerman directed $4 million in Economic and Community Development funding to convert the Dobie Pre-K building into a community resource center.

Commissioner Sommerman and Dallas County staff have been working diligently to recruit social service organizations to provide necessary services to the surrounding community that would improve the health, safety, and well-being of everyone in the Esperanza neighborhood.

These services include after school childcare, workforce development, a pediatric clinic, and a senior center.

J. Frank Dobie Pre-K has always been known as the “Heart of the Esperanza Community.” It is Commissioner Sommerman’s goal to keep this vital building open to continue serving Esperanza and the surrounding communities.
