The Court Visitor Program is governed by §1054.102 of the Texas Estates Code

  • Purpose: assess the condition and well-being of the incapacitated people under guardianship.
  • Court Visitors - § 1054.105: runs exclusively with community volunteers and interns from local colleges and universities. Court Visitors are appointed by the court to conduct face-to-face site visits on the incapacitated person.
    • Duties: A court visitor is responsible for:
      • Scheduling the appointment
      • Interviewing with the Guardian and collateral contacts, as necessary
      • Interviewing the Incapacitated Person
      • Researching medications and diagnoses and conditions
      • Providing follow-up with needed resources for Guardians
      • Preparing & submitting the court visitor evaluation report
  • Court Visitor Evaluation Report (CVER) - § 1054.104: the court visitor is required to complete a comprehensive report assessing the current status and needs of the incapacitated person. The court visitor will also make a recommendation regarding the ability of the incapacitated person to have rights restored, or the guardianship terminated.

How to Become a Court Visitor

  2. Complete and return the Dallas County Internship Application to the DCPCIntern@dallascounty.org email.
  3. Schedule an Interview with the Court Visitor Program Supervisor
  4. Attend Orientation
