Move a Little - It Matters a Lot!
Every Step Counts is a county-wide campaign to help you live a healthier life, one step at a time. Kids need around 60 minutes of physical activity each day, and adults need around 150 minutes per week. If your daily routine involves lots of sitting, you’re not alone! Currently, only one in four adults and one in five youth in the U.S. gets enough physical activity.
Physical activity helps:
- Boost your mood
- Sharpen your focus
- Reduce stress
- Improve your sleep
- Make your muscles and bones stronger
- Prevent health problems from diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease
Physical activity safety:
- Choose an activity that is appropriate for your fitness level and health goals
- "Start low and go slow" Gradually increase physical activity over time. Start with lower intensity activities and slowly increase how often and how long you are active
- Use appropriate gear and equipment for protection. Choose a safe environment and follow rules and policies as appropriate.
- Consult with your health care provider or specialist about the type and amount of physical activity that may be right for you, particularly if you have a chronic condition or other health concerns.
Every Step Counts calls on residents of all ages to get more active! You don’t have to run a marathon or go to the gym to take part. Whether you’re dancing at home, walking the dog, gardening, or even cleaning the house - it all counts. Use the links below to get involved:
