Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is excited to introduce the Healthy Start program to residents of zip codes 75217, 75149, and 75150. This program offers free group-based education courses designed to promote healthy practices for expectant mothers, fathers, and new parents or guardians. Through these courses, participants will receive valuable guidance to support the well-being of their growing families.

Course Descriptions
Freedom from Smoking® (American Lung Association):
Are you ready to live smoke-free? Join DCHHS for an 8-session, 7-week group course led by trained staff. This supportive program will guide you through the benefits of quitting, help you prepare for "quit day," and provide tips on medications, stress management, and lifestyle changes. Connect with others on the same journey and boost your chances of success by attending all the sessions. Open to pregnant women, new parents, and caregivers.
Nutrition Education for Diabetic Moms - Cooking Well with Diabetes:
Looking for practical ways to manage or prevent diabetes through healthy eating? This engaging course covers basic nutrition education and includes hands-on cooking demonstrations, meal planning tips, and quick dinner ideas. Participants will receive over 25 delicious, diabetes-friendly recipes to try at home. Open to pregnant women, new parents, caregivers, and anyone interested in healthy eating and diabetes prevention. To register, click here.
Managing Diabetes and Hypertension During Pregnancy - Chronic Disease Management Education:
This class offers helpful tips for managing diabetes and hypertension during pregnancy and beyond. Learn about chronic condition management, recognize maternal warning signs, and gain confidence in discussing health concerns with your provider. Whether you're currently managing a condition, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking preventive knowledge, this class is open to all pregnant women, new parents, and caregivers. Want to eat well without breaking the bank? Join us for interactive sessions with DCHHS nutrition professionals to discover how to shop smartly and prepare balanced, affordable meals that cater to the whole family. These sessions cover nutrition basics such as meal planning and food label reading as well as providing tailored guidance for pregnant and breastfeeding moms and tips on how to encourage healthy eating habits in young children.
