On June 2020, a month after George Perry Floyd Jr. was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dallas County passed a unanimous resolution naming racism a public health crisis. Like many other public and private institutions following this horrible event, Dallas County sought ways to make an impact within our sphere of influence, to remove the sting of racism and its impact on our employees and community members. Among other actions, the county decided to hire a Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer to help lead our efforts to improve our employees' overall experience, making our workplace more inclusive and identifying and removing obstacles that may be keeping our employees from moving up in the organization and feeling like they truly belong, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sex, age, background, culture, beliefs, abilities, or social status.

As part of this work, the Office of Equity and Inclusion provides support to Dallas County departments and community stakeholders in the development and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility strategies and best practices so that all members of the Dallas County workforce and the community have an opportunity to thrive.
