James T. Henderson enlisted in the United States Army in 1983, attended basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He received advanced training at Fort Benning as well as Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  His numerous assignments ranged from company to headquarters level positions. His combat tours included assignments in Grenada, Saudi-Arabia and Kuwait.  Mr. Henderson also had a dual track career as a combat infantryman and as a Chaplain’s Assistant. After an exemplary military career, he retired from the Army in 2007.

Mr. Henderson’s significant military accomplishments include numerous awards and decorations of the Meritorious Service Medal (7th Award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (7th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi-Arabia) Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.

An advocate for veterans, Mr. Henderson currently serves as the Director for The Dallas County Veterans Services Office.  Assigned with the responsibility of assisting eligible Veterans and family members in preparing and submitting claims for federal, state, and all other benefits one might be entitled to; he maintains certification by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representative and holds accreditation with the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC). He has also received numerous awards in his capacity as the Dallas County Veteran Service Officer to include the Dan Garcia Memorial Award (2014), Veteran County Service Officers Association of Texas (VCSOAT) Presidents Award (2013), Dallas County Employee of the Month (Feb 2012), and Veterans County Service Officer of the Year for 2011 (state level).

Mr. Henderson is the past Vice President and Treasurer for The Veteran County Service Officers Association of Texas (VCSOAT). He is a member of the Greater Dallas Veterans Council, a member of the American Legion, and former member of The Dallas County Parade Committee.
