Appellate
The Appellate Division of the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office, established in 2006, represents indigent defendants in direct appeals from felony and misdemeanor cases. Comprising five attorneys and one senior legal secretary, the division handles all aspects of direct appeals, including jury and bench trials, revocations, and state’s appeals. Their work involves reviewing appellate records, preparing briefs, and sometimes presenting oral arguments in court. The division may also seek further review in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Additionally, they provide trial support, offering legal research and advice to other divisions within the office.
