This project, funded by the Native Plant Society of Texas, creates habitat for monarch butterflies and other native pollinators. Pollinator gardens support the recovery and growth of monarch populations and other native pollinators, fostering biodiversity and strengthening ecosystem health.
Why are pollinators and native plants important?
Native pollinators are essential because they play a crucial role in supporting healthy ecosystems, agriculture, and native plant communities. Many pollinators rely specifically on native plant species. For example, the monarch butterfly lays its eggs exclusively on milkweed, which is also the sole food source for its caterpillars. Many pollinators are threatened by habitat loss, pesticides, and invasive species. Protecting them ensures the survival of countless other species that depend on pollinated plants.
How can you help?
Help protect pollinators by volunteering with us! Visit our volunteer website to sign up for garden workdays and become a part of this exciting project. Beyond volunteering, you can support pollinators by planting native plants in your yard and reducing lawn space by leaving natural areas in your yard. Native plants are built for Texas weather, so they need less water and maintenance- saving you time and resources.
