We want you to enjoy your visit to our Dallas County Preserves. Help us create a fun and safe environment for both you and wildlife by observing these rules and guidelines:

  • Plan ahead prior to your visit. Preserves are typically open from 6:00 am to sunset.
  • If you pack it in, pack it out. Take your trash with you or dispose of it in a trash bin.
    • Fun fact: It takes up to two years for an orange or banana peel to decompose. Let’s not leave our human waste behind for humans or wildlife to find.
  • Pets are welcome! We ask that they are on a leash, and you pack out their waste.
  • Take only pictures and leave only footprints. Leave wildlife and natural materials in nature.
  • Respect wildlife and keep your distance.
  • Stay on marked trails.
  • Campfires and fireworks are not permitted in preserves. Visitors are welcome to use charcoal grills that are present at designated preserves.
  • Contact the Dallas County Open Space Administrator prior to placing a geocache in a preserve.
  • Alcohol is not allowed in any preserve.
  • Camping is prohibited in Dallas County preserves.
  • Respect other’s experience in nature. Lower your music when outdoors if using speakers, or better yet, wear headphones.

The Dallas County Parks & Open Space Program policies can be found in the Dallas County Code. Individual preserves are governed by the parks and recreation ordinances of the cities in which they are located, otherwise the Dallas County Code applies. Check with the individual city’s parks and recreation departments for more information on specific rules and ordinances.
