We want you to enjoy your visit to our Dallas County Preserves. Help us create a fun and safe environment for both you and wildlife by observing these rules and guidelines:

  • Plan ahead prior to your visit. Most preserves are managed by our municipal partners, and have varying hours of operation. County-managed preserves are open sunrise to sunset. Check individual preserve webpages to learn more. The following activities and items are not allowed at any preserve:
    • Consumption of alcohol
    • Motorized vehicles
    • Hunting
    • Overnight camping
    • Fireworks
    • Other activities may be restricted. Check individual preserve pages for rules that may apply in that municipality.
  • If you pack it in, pack it out. Take your trash with you or dispose of it in a trash bin.
    • Did you know that it takes up to two years for an orange or banana peel to decompose? Let’s not leave our human waste behind for humans or wildlife to find.
  • Leashed pets are welcome! Please pick up their waste.
  • Take only pictures and leave only footprints. Leave wildlife and natural materials in nature.
  • Respect wildlife and keep your distance.
  • Stay on marked trails.
  • Contact the Dallas County Open Space Administrator prior to placing a geocache in a preserve.
  • Respect other’s experience in nature. Lower your music when outdoors if using speakers, or better yet, wear headphones.

The Dallas County Parks & Open Space Program policies can be found in the Dallas County Code. Individual preserves are governed by the parks and recreation ordinances of the cities in which they are located, otherwise the Dallas County Code applies. Check with the individual city’s parks and recreation departments for more information on specific rules and ordinances. Questions? Call (214) 653-6653 or email parks.openspace@dallascounty.org.
