Overdose Data to Action: 2024 Annual Surveillance Report
Dallas County's Overdose Data to Action: 2024 Annual Surveillance Report of Preliminary Trends in Drug Overdoses is intended to highlight key trends in substance use annually across Dallas County. This year's annual report shows a decline in fatal overdoses, aligning with national trends, though counts remain provisional due to data reporting lags. As of August 14, 2025, there were 558 overdose deaths in 2024 compared to 628 in 2023, with fentanyl remaining the primary cause of death, and stimulants contributing significantly. Notably, the highest mortality rates were among males, White individuals, and adults aged 35–64 years. The findings from this report highlight ongoing disparities in substance use morbidity and mortality, signaling the need for continued monitoring, targeted harm reduction efforts, and multisectoral collaboration.
