DA Creuzot Hits the Streets to Support Focused Deterrence Outreach
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot didn’t just send a team, he personally joined officers from the Dallas Police Department’s Focused Deterrence Unit, project specialists, implementation managers, prosecutors and other stakeholders to knock on doors, meet with residents, and deliver a message of accountability, opportunity and hope.
This wasn’t just a symbolic gesture. DA Creuzot walked neighborhoods, spoke face-to-face with individuals and their families, and listened to their stories. In each instance, he left a personal business card and one family member was so taken aback by his presence she later called a trusted officer to confirm that she’d actually spoke with the elected DA. (She had!)
The outreach was part of the Dallas Police Department Violence Crime Division’s Focused Deterrence Neighborhood Outreach Program, a key component of DPD’s evidence-based violent crime reduction plan. The initiative targets justice-impacted individuals who reside in Dallas and have a history of violent offenses. It offers them an off-ramp, intensive case management and wraparound social services, instead of continued involvement in the criminal justice system. For those who choose not to change, the program ensures continued enforcement through strong prosecution in partnership with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
This weekend’s team attempted to visit six potential clients, successfully meeting with one and speaking directly with relatives of two others. At each stop, the message was clear: we are here to help but also to hold you accountable. In addition to offering services, the team delivered boxes of food and began assessing immediate needs for support and intervention.
DA Creuzot’s involvement underscores just how important this work is to him and our office. Focused Deterrence is a proven strategy for reducing violence, and we are proud to stand with our law enforcement partners and community members to help individuals change course and make Dallas safer.
