Applicants accepted into this program will assist their supervising prosecutors with tasks including trial preparation, research for legal hearings and briefs, listening to jail calls, reviewing crime scene videos and audio, and participating in witness and law enforcement interviews. You will get a first-hand view of what a prosecutor’s job entails in Dallas County.

These positions are unpaid. Please contact your law school for stipend or fellowship opportunities.

Placement for interns is determined by the need of the office and the skills of the intern. While we take the interest of the intern into consideration for placement, we cannot guarantee that the intern will get their desired division. The divisions within our office include:

  • Appellate
  • Community Response Team (High-Risk Offenders)
  • Conviction Integrity
  • Crimes Against Children
  • Elder Abuse
  • Family Violence
  • Gangs
  • Mental Health
  • Organized Crime (Narcotics and Firearms)
  • Restorative Justice
  • Sexual Assaults
  • Specialized (Financial Crimes)
  • Trial Courts (Felony and Misdemeanor)
  • Vehicular Crimes (Intoxication Fatalities)

All applicants are required to submit the following:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Internship application
  • Current photograph - *optional but encouraged
  • Writing sample (5-10 pages) - *optional but encouraged for law school students.
 

 

2025 INTERNSHIP & EXTERNSHIP SESSIONS

Applicants must be current undergraduate or law school students. All students applying for school credit must be enrolled with a faculty advisor or an externship program. Students may intern for one or both sessions and can indicate their preference on the application.

Please ensure that you will be available for the entire length of the program. There will be no exceptions for Orientation date, but exceptions will be made if the end date conflicts with the start of your school semester.

These positions are unpaid. Please contact your law school for stipend or fellowship opportunities. We do not offer 3L Bar Cards during these internships.

2025 Spring Externship Session

Spring Application Opens:October 4, 2024

Spring Extern Session:January 20 - April 18, 2025

2025 Summer Internship Sessions

Summer Application Opens:November 1, 2024
Summer Application Deadline:February 28, 2025
Summer Internship Session I:May 12 - June 20, 2025

2025 POST-BAR SESSIONS

Applicants for the Post-Bar Session must be current 3L students who will be graduating and taking the Bar exam prior to the internship beginning. We do not offer 3L Bar Cards during these internships, but we do offer a small stipend for Post-Bar interns only. The session will end on the date noted below or the date the Bar results are published.

Fall Application Deadline:February 28, 2025
